Emerging Artists Transform Eixample's Creative Scene With New Spaces

The cultural life of Eixample continues to be shaped by a combination of public performance circuits and independent contemporary galleries. These platforms serve as a vital stage for emerging talent, connecting professional artistic works with local audiences across the district's civic centers and established art hubs.

Professional Performance Circuits

One of the primary vehicles for performing arts in the district is the Escena circuit, which is currently in its 19th edition. This initiative provides a platform for professional theater, circus, dance, and music. Performances are hosted at three distinct civic centers: the Urgell civic center, Cotxeres Borrell, and the Ateneu Fort Pienc. These centers act as nodes for accessible, professional-grade performances within the neighborhood, ensuring that the arts remain integrated into the daily life of the community.

In addition to the ongoing Escena circuit, the district has historically hosted the Tangent Arts Festival. During its 9th edition, held from July 3-24, 2025, the festival featured 16 free performances covering music, dance, circus, and theater. These events were distributed across six different civic centers in Eixample, illustrating the breadth of the district's infrastructure for the performing arts.

Contemporary Galleries and Artistic Hubs

Beyond live performance, Eixample maintains a dense network of contemporary galleries. The area, particularly the 'Gaixample' locale near Carrer d'Aribau, hosts several established spaces that contribute to the district's visual arts profile. Notable institutions within this cluster include Víctor Lope Arte Contemporáneo, 3 Punts Galeria, and Galeria Joan Prats. These galleries provide a consistent space for contemporary exhibition and engagement for both creators and collectors.

The integration of history and modern artisan practice is also a recurring feature of the local calendar. The Festival of the Dreta de l'Eixample organizes the 16th Modernist Fair along Bruc Street and Diagonal Avenue, a project historically dedicated to themes such as the centennial of playwright Àngel Guimerà. Furthermore, the 20th Fira Modernista, scheduled for May 29-31, 2026, focuses on the centennial of Antoni Gaudí's death, featuring a program of artisan workshops and live craft demonstrations. These events underscore the district's commitment to linking historical heritage with contemporary creative practice.
