Officials also approved the purchase of the former Barceloneta clinic and three adjacent buildings to establish the new CAP Barceloneta primary healthcare centre, to be managed initially by Parc Sanitari Pere Virgili before transfer to the Catalan Health Service.
Barceloneta Investment Details
The €31 million plan for Barceloneta directs €14.3 million specifically to public space improvements. Housing works include renovation of two blocks to deliver 81 flats for the elderly at C/ Pinzón and additional flats at Passeig Joan de Borbó. These measures form part of broader efforts to upgrade facilities while the neighbourhood faces external pressures from major events.
Coastal and Infrastructure Steps
The council secured control of 62.8 hectares of coastal land between Barceloneta and Sant Adrià de Besòs, restricting future use to public purposes only. Additional agreements involve IMHAB securing a loan for social rental housing and coordination with the Catalan government and Port de Barcelona on northern port improvements, including the fishing area at Sant Sebastià groyne. A separate road safety plan targets zero road deaths and serious injuries by 2030.
