Barcelona launches 49 summer infrastructure projects in Barceloneta neighborhood

Barcelona is advancing 49 projects this summer focused on public spaces and essential services, with several elements likely to touch residents in Barceloneta through changes in transport and street conditions.

Timing chosen to reduce local inconvenience

Work is being stepped up during the summer period specifically to keep the effects on everyday movement and routines as small as possible. The approach covers renewal of streets, rail infrastructure and the main networks for water, gas and electricity. Officials have pointed to this schedule as a way to complete necessary upgrades while fewer people are following regular commuting patterns.

Barceloneta residents who rely on metro lines or nearby road corridors may notice temporary adjustments. Projects include continued work on the FGC railway line 8 and maintenance across metro lines 2, 4, 5 and 10 Nord, which will bring some station-to-station closures at times. The full set of 49 projects includes eight major asphalt renewal efforts covering nearly 100,000 square metres of road surface. These form part of the Pla Endreça programme. Additional items cover the second stage of covering the Ronda de Dalt, remodelling on La Rambla, Via Laietana and Ronda Sant Antoni, plus ongoing activity on Avinguda Diagonal and at Parc de les Glòries. Utility work features repairs to safe-water, gas and power networks and seven schemes to expand the groundwater system.
