The transport sector contributes a large share of global air pollution. In 2010 it was the fastest-growing source of climate emissions and accounted for 14% of the greenhouse gas budget. These dated statistics continue to inform current assessments of sector impacts.
Road traffic injuries carry particular weight because 93% of the annual total occurs in low- and middle-income countries. This distribution highlights where safety interventions may have the greatest effect when data are used to target resources.
