Born Property Data Tracks 34,269 Addresses' Transport Access Metrics

Born addresses gained a new layer of transport detail this year when a property-level dataset went live with counts of nearby bus stops, coach stops and airports, plus street-level traffic volumes at different times of day.

The figures matter now because planners and residents here are weighing how daily movement patterns affect air quality and daily routines amid ongoing street changes. Access to public transport options can shape everything from school runs to evening commutes, and the numbers give a clearer picture than broad maps alone.

Local teams can connect the records to individual properties through a unique identifier that matches existing participant files. The measures use both straight-line decay weighting and actual street-network distances out to 2,000 metres, giving options for different planning scales.

Access points tallied by distance

Each address carries separate tallies for bus stops, coach stops and airports. Variables include raw counts inside 300-metre, 500-metre, 1,000-metre and 2,000-metre network buffers, plus mean distance to all such points and distance to the single closest one. Distance-decay versions apply weights from 0.001 to 0.01 so nearer stops count more heavily.

The same structure applies to airports, allowing comparison of rare long-distance links against everyday bus services. All fields sit in one file that can be joined directly to property records without extra processing steps.

Traffic volumes recorded at set times

Vehicle counts and congestion readings appear for morning, afternoon and evening windows inside 100-metre and 300-metre buffers. These timed slices sit alongside the public-transport fields, letting users see both service availability and the resulting flow on nearby streets.

The full set draws on 2021 base layers and was compiled for the Born in Bradford project by Kimon Krenz. Users are asked to cite the 2023 paper by Krenz and colleagues for full methods. The table itself lists 34,269 rows and was last refreshed on 10 March 2026.

Anyone working with the records can download the variable list and names files from the project site to match fields to their own address tables. The data dictionary supplies exact column definitions so analysts can choose the radius or weighting that fits a given question without guesswork.

Next steps for Born users include pulling the files, linking them via the property identifier, and testing which distance bands best match observed travel behaviour in different neighbourhoods. The package is already formatted for direct use in standard mapping tools.
