Eixample District Budget Allocates €2.3 Million More for Community Services Programs

Why the revision arrives now
Municipal records show applications for home assistance rose 18 percent in Eixample between January 2025 and March 2026. District officials cited the increase when they adjusted the mid-year accounts, moving funds from administrative overhead into direct service lines.
Residents in the Eixample grid will see the first practical effects in September. Home care teams are scheduled to add 420 new weekly visits, focusing on adults over 75 who live alone in the blocks between Carrer de Balmes and Carrer de Pau Claris. Neighborhood centers at Plaça de la Sagrada Família and Carrer del Consell de Cent will open two additional evenings each week.
Numbers behind the allocation
The district budget paper lists the €2.3 million as coming from unspent capital reserves carried forward from 2025. Of that sum, €1.1 million is earmarked for new care-worker contracts and €900,000 for center utilities and equipment. The remaining €300,000 covers transport vouchers for clients attending daytime programs.
Implementation will begin with recruitment notices posted by the district administration in late July. Service contracts are projected to be signed by mid-August, allowing the first new visits and extended center hours to start on 1 September. District staff will publish quarterly usage reports on the municipal website beginning in October.
