Eixample Residents Shape €3 Million Infrastructure Budget in New Consultation

The Ajuntament de Barcelona is accepting community proposals until November 29 for the Pressupostos Participatius in Eixample, which allocates a €3 million budget for neighborhood initiatives prioritized by residents. A separate two-month participatory consultation has also begun on a new special use plan that would restrict new restaurants and bars in the district.

These processes coincide with an improvement plan for Eixample's green streets developed through joint work by 18 local organizations. The plan includes an information stage scheduled until autumn to explain new regulations to residents. Local resident associations have additionally presented a report on invisible evictions affecting 10,000 residents between 2016 and 2024.

Participatory budget and rejected proposals

The Barcelona City Council rejected a citizen proposal by Eixample Respira to pacify four corners in the district during the participatory budget vote. The project had received 350 prior votes and requested €250,000. Residents may still submit other proposals for services and infrastructure under the €3 million allocation until the November 29 deadline.

Community proposals under the Pressupostos Participatius can address local services such as mobility improvements and green space maintenance. The budget process allows direct input on how funds support daily infrastructure needs in the district.

Special use plan and green streets regulations

The two-month consultation on the special use plan gathers opinions on limiting new restaurants and bars to address gentrification pressures. This process runs alongside the green streets improvement plan, where information sessions will continue until autumn to detail regulations for residents.

The green streets plan stems from agreements among 18 local organizations and focuses on infrastructure changes that affect movement and public spaces. Residents can participate in the ongoing consultation to provide input on how restrictions and street improvements shape local services and business locations.
