Gracia Council Approves 2026-27 Rates, Expanding Rebates for Households

The Gracia City Council voted 7-2 on July 7 to adopt the 2026-27 rates schedule and widen eligibility rules for the Household Budget Relief Program. The package raises base property rates by 2.8 percent while increasing the maximum annual rebate from $120 to $150 for qualifying accounts.

The vote occurred during the council's final budget adoption meeting before the new fiscal year starts. Council documents record that operating costs for waste collection and street lighting rose 4.1 percent over the past twelve months, prompting the adjustment to maintain service levels across the municipality.

Changes to Resident Payments

Under the new schedule a median-valued residential property will incur an extra $62 in rates before any rebate. The legislation states that the Household Budget Relief Program now accepts applications from renters who hold utility accounts in their name, extending coverage to roughly 4,200 additional households according to the figures in the 2026 Gracia Budget Paper. A household receiving the full rebate will therefore face a net increase of $41 for the year.

Small commercial properties in the central business district receive the same 2.8 percent uplift. The fiscal impact statement attached to the resolution projects that the combined changes will produce $1.4 million in additional revenue, allocated to the capital works program for footpath repairs and drainage upgrades listed in the same document.

Policy analysts note that quarterly billing statements issued after September 1 will display the revised amounts and any rebate credit on a single line. Residents who do not apply for the rebate by the August 15 deadline will receive the standard rate notice without the credit.

Upcoming Administrative Steps

Two public information sessions are scheduled at the Gracia Community Centre for July 22 and July 29. Updated rate calculators and application forms appear on the municipal website as of July 8. The government says the policy will be reviewed during the mid-year budget update in January 2027.
