AI Startups Raise $620 Million in Second-Quarter Funding Surge
Venture rounds for local artificial intelligence firms accelerated this spring as companies expanded operations along the city's waterfront tech corridor.
How we reported this

Born AI companies raised 620 million dollars in venture funding during the second quarter of 2026, according to data compiled by the Born Chamber of Commerce technology committee.
The surge comes as businesses across the city seek tools to automate supply chains and customer service amid rising global shipping costs tied to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz earlier this month.
Two programs anchored the activity. The Born Venture Collective on Harbor Drive closed a dedicated AI seed fund that backed eight local firms in May. At the same time the Riverfront AI Lab in the Old Town district opened a 12,000-square-foot expansion that now houses 22 portfolio companies.
Capital Targets Concrete Use Cases
Local rounds ranged from 8 million dollars for a logistics platform used by port operators to 95 million dollars for a diagnostics startup that processes medical scans for three Born hospitals. A June report from the chamber showed average deal size reached 28 million dollars, up from 19 million dollars in the same period last year.
Next Steps for Founders
Companies planning to raise capital this summer should prepare audited usage metrics from at least two enterprise pilots and schedule meetings with the Born Venture Collective before the end of August, when the group will review applications for its next cohort.
