Barcelona now ranks as the second most popular city among startup founders in Europe, and the fifth-largest EU hub overall. Catalonia leads Spain’s national ecosystem with more than 2,350 technology companies, according to regional data. Those figures put Barcelona ahead of Berlin in founder preference, though still behind London. But the real story is the density within L’Eixample itself. The district packs a disproportionate share of those 2,350 companies into a compact, walkable grid that was designed in the 19th century, proving that startup ecosystems don’t need new campuses. They need good transport, good addresses, and the right neighbors.
What happens next is less about global pitch competitions and more about Tuesday nights.
