Born Launches July Calendar: Dozens of Free Community Events

Born Parks and Recreation issued its July community events calendar on Monday, listing 52 free or low-cost activities across eight neighbourhoods.

Residents have turned to these local listings in greater numbers this summer as international headlines on trade routes and energy markets add uncertainty to daily routines. City data shows a 14 percent rise in event sign-ups compared with the same period last year.

Neighbourhood highlights

Organisers have scheduled a farmers market every Saturday morning on Elm Street in the River District, run by the Born Food Co-op, and a weekly open-air film series on Thursdays at Central Square Park hosted by the Harbourview Arts Alliance. The July 18 edition of the film series will screen on the lawn behind the old ferry terminal at 8 p.m.

Attendance records from last July show 8,400 people took part in events listed on the calendar, with the largest single turnout of 1,200 at the River District market. Entry remains free except for a two-dollar suggested donation at the film nights to cover projector rental.

Printed copies of the full calendar sit at the front desk of the Main Library on Oak Avenue and at the Born Community Centre on Maple Road. Residents can also download the PDF from the city website or call the parks hotline to request a mailed copy before the next print run on July 20.
