Eixample Residents Can Join Affordable Group Fitness Classes This Summer
Eixample residents can join affordable group fitness sessions at municipal centres this summer without leaving the district.
How we reported this
Barcelona city council facilities in Eixample opened their July group exercise timetable on 1 July with 162 weekly sessions across yoga, pilates and circuit training.
Heat alerts issued by the Ajuntament last week have pushed more residents indoors for structured movement rather than outdoor runs along the Rambla de Catalunya. Council data shows indoor attendance rose 28 percent in the same period last year, when daytime highs stayed above 30 degrees for eleven consecutive days.
Venues Across Eixample
Two main sites handle most bookings. The Centre Esportiu Municipal on Carrer de València 123 runs morning mat pilates at 8.30am and evening HIIT circuits at 7pm on weekdays. Three blocks north, the Poliesportiu de la Dreta at Carrer d'Aragó 345 hosts dance-based cardio on Tuesdays and Thursdays plus chair yoga for over-60s every Monday at 10am. Both centres sit inside the Eixample grid and accept the same city sports card.
Each venue lists exact room capacities on the Barcelona Esports website. The València site holds 24 mats per class while the Aragó gym accommodates 18 people for circuits. Drop-in spots open 15 minutes before start time for card holders who missed the monthly sign-up window.
Registration and Schedules
A single session costs 4.50 euros for residents with the targeta esportiva and 7 euros without. Full July passes are available at both desks until 15 July for 38 euros. Participants must bring ID and the card on first visit; online pre-booking closes at midnight the day before each class.
Staff at the two centres advise arriving 10 minutes early during the current heatwave because lockers fill quickly after 6pm. Updated timetables appear every Monday on the Ajuntament sports portal and on noticeboards at Plaça de la Sagrada Família. Residents who want to test one class can use the guest pass system introduced in June, which allows two trial entries per calendar month.
