Local wellness groups report that parents now seek short, traffic-separated loops they can complete before school pickups or after work shifts in the quarter’s shops and offices.
The 1.8-kilometre Jardins del Palau circuit skirts the cathedral gardens and connects to the quieter Carrer del Call extension, where the Gothic Quarter Wellness Initiative installed rubberised barriers and child-height signage last month. Both segments stay under a two-percent grade and avoid the steep drops near Plaça Reial.
Programs and access points
The Quarter Cycle Program, run by the same board, schedules supervised Saturday rides starting at 10 a.m. from the kiosk beside Plaça Sant Jaume. Participants receive reflective vests and a printed route sheet that marks the two rest points equipped with water fountains and repair stands. A second partner, the Gothic Quarter Parks Department, maintains the surfaces and has pledged weekly inspections through September.
City transport data released in May showed a 28 percent increase in weekday bicycle counts on Carrer de Ferran between January and April 2026, with the largest share coming from riders under age 12. Rental fees at the on-site stand near Carrer del Call average eight euros for two hours, with helmets included for children.
