Barcelona's wind climate is defined by the summer garbí (a cool south-westerly sea breeze that builds on hot afternoons) and the winter mistral-like mestral from the north-west. The tramuntana, a strong, dry northerly, can sweep down from the Pyrenees and drop temperatures sharply in a matter of hours.
